If you have serious airborne allergies, you want to make sure that you can actually breathe in comfort in your own house. You can't control the pollen, dust, or mold counts outside, but you can control it on the inside. There are several ways that you can help to keep the air in your house as pure as possible.

Air Purifiers

These purifiers pull in the air, clean it, and then blow it back out. The air goes through a series of filters so that it can get rid of all kinds of allergens and other impurities. There are different kinds of filters that you can use, depending on what kind of purifier you have and what you need. Purifiers come in different sizes. You can choose one that will go for just a room or you can get one that will do your whole house. If you choose to get one for just a room, then you should put it in the room you are in the most. You may also want to make sure that you are using one in your bedroom. Using room air purifiers is a good idea if you live in an apartment and don't have control of the entire house's air flow systems. You can also use the room air filters until you can get a whole-house purifier.

HEPA HVAC Filters

Another thing you can do is put HEPA filters in your furnace and air conditioners. HEPA filters are designed to catch microscopic impurities so that they can't get through to the living area of your home. You need to have filters in your heating and air conditioning system anyway, so put ones in that are there to help get rid of impurities that can get in through your house's HVAC system. Even if you put in a whole-house air filter, putting these filters in your HVAC system is a good thing. It's kind of like a belt/suspenders idea. That way if one fails, you already have a backup in place.

Dealing with severe airborne allergies can be a real headache. You may end up having to take a lot of medication to keep from coughing, hacking, sneezing, and having itchy and watery eyes. You can't control your exposure to your allergens everywhere you go, but there are things that you can do inside your home so that you don't have to be surrounded by the allergens all the time.
