Improve Your Home's Feng Shui with Crown Molding
Feng shui now occupies a place in home decorating, with most people understanding at least the basic concepts of how to make a home more harmonious through decoration and furniture placement. Everything in a room affects the feng shui of the place; on one hand, this can be confusing because now you have to consider each little bit of material, but on the other hand, you can make the room feel more comfortable just by changing a little piece of material. Crown molding is one such item, and it can vastly improve your home's energy if used correctly.
Lessen the Effects of a Beam
Crown molding has a softening effect, hiding corners and edges. If you have a beam running down the ceiling—a beam is said to be divisive and lead to such things as breakups and headaches—and you can't arrange furniture so that none of it is under the beam, soften the sides of the beam with crown molding. For example, let's say you have a room that is divided in half by a beam. You arrange the furniture so that none of it is under the beam, and the two halves of the room could be treated as rooms themselves. That's fine. But now say that the room is small and that you find that the only place where your desk will fit is right under the beam. If none of the usual feng shui cures, like hanging flutes or creating a lowered ceiling with cloth, are feasible, try adding crown molding all along both sides of the beam. By softening the angles of the beam, you could soften any potential effects.
In all uses of crown molding, ensure the angles and edges are smooth and flowing rather than pointed. Corner blocks are of particular concern. See how the corner blocks will fit with adjacent parts of the molding before trying to install them.
Draw Attention Upward
Crown molding also functions as a visual point of focus. People's energy and sight are drawn up as they look up at the molding. This upward focus means there should be less of a depressing, oppressive feeling in the room. Obviously, your personality, life circumstances, and mental-health affect how you feel too. But that upward shift can be enough to make you feel better and make it seem like your life is going more smoothly.
Even Out Sloped Ceilings
Sloped ceilings, including steeply vaulted ceilings, are fashionable, but they can draw too much energy upward, leaving you and other floor-dwellers kind of good-energy deficient. Any furniture under the low end of the ceiling can also be rather unlucky. The cure is to create a false ceiling line that runs across all the walls evenly. Crown molding—again, with soft, flowing edges—works well for this. It creates an imaginary barrier that keeps the good energy up but not too far up.
Crown molding is easy to find and even easier to have installed. Decorative patterns make the molding look even better, and installers can help you choose a lovely pattern.
