If you are a restaurant owner and use stainless steel equipment, learn how to remove scratches from this material so that each item continues to look great. Scratches in stainless steel cannot do any damage, but you will feel better about your establishment if your appliances and machinery are damage-free. The methods that are listed will explain how to successfully remove marks from this popular material.

Vegetable Oil

Vegetable oil can be used to remove fine scratches. The components that it is made out of will fill in small grooves, making the scratches no longer visible. To do this, pour a small amount of vegetable oil on a cloth and rub it over the scratched areas. Use circular motions and continue rubbing until the scratches have disappeared. Wipe away any excess oil. Use vegetable oil each time you see new scratches appear in the material.

Sandpaper

Fine grit sandpaper works well to remove minor scratches. Rub the sandpaper over the scratches and move it along the grain. Use consistent pressure, but do not be too rough. Once the surface feels smooth and you no longer see any visible scratches, rinse it to eliminate dust particles that have been left behind by the sandpaper. Limit the amount of times that you sand the surface. It can dull the finish that is on your equipment if done excessively.

Rubbing Compound

Apply a small amount of rubbing compound on each scratched area. Use a soft cloth to buff the surface. Once the compound is no longer visible, check to view the condition of the scratches. If they are gone, you are finished and can remove the residue from the compound with vinegar mixed with water. If the scratches are still visible, apply some more compound and rub it in. Eventually, your efforts will pay off and you will not be able to see any more scratches.

After scratches have been removed from your stainless steel equipment, continue to keep it protected by cleaning it regularly and drying the surface of each item after you are finished using it. Keep sharp objects away from the equipment and always treat each item as if it is brand new. By following these steps, you will have a great looking kitchen that is fully functional.

You also may be able to lengthen the life of your equipment by taking good care of it. This will save you money that can be used for other needs associated with your business. Contact a company like A & C Metals - Sawing for more information and tips.
